Transport Concessions
Public Transport
Public transport concessions allow students to receive a discounted fare on cityrail trains, Sydney buses and ferries.
To be eligible, the student must be
- an Australian citizen or hold a Permanent Resident visa
- a full-time student, enrolled in internal classes (not external mode)
- not receive any renumeration (scholarships and allowances such as Austudy and the Youth Allowance are not counted as renumeration)
For Undergraduate students, full-time is considered to be 9 credit points or more per semester. For Postgraduate students, this varies according to your degree. Please call the Student Enquiry Service to check if you are full-time.
To receive a transport concession sticker, students may either be given one at their enrolment at the start of the year, or from the Student Enquiry Service. The Student Enquiry Service normally administers this from week 3 of each semester. Concession stickers are valid until the end of March the following year, e.g. the 2008 sticker will be valid until 31st March 2009. Please remember to renew your concession sticker if you are eligible.
Replacing a lost or stolen public transport concession sticker
Students must now go to the State Transit Authority for a replacement sticker. The cost is $21 (for 2008). A form can be issued by the Student Enquiry Service confirming the student's full-time status, which is then taken to STA by the student.
Private Transport
For private bus companies, a white concession form must be completed and then taken to the Student Enquiry Service to be signed and stamped. The form is then taken to the bus company concerned by the student.
The concession form requires information such as class times, student name and residential address.
Private bus concessions can only be granted during semester. They do not cover any holiday periods.
As some private bus companies now recognise the state transit concession sticker, please contact the bus company concerned to ask what concession they recognise.
